A FORMER Dundee maths teacher last night said he had won a victory for common sense after his criminal record was wiped clean by the High Court in Edinburgh.

Mike and Moira Barile celebrate last night.

Speaking to The Courier as he enjoyed a celebratory meal with his wife Moira at a city centre restaurant, Mr Barile said he was “delighted” to have finally been vindicated.

Almost two years of legal proceedings and disciplinary hearings ended with Mr Barile successful in having his sentence on two charges of assault quashed.

Judges hearing his appeal against sentence in Edinburgh granted the former Lawside Academy maths teacher an absolute discharge, opening the way to a new career in charity work with Dundee United and others.

Mr Barile, of Strathmartine Road, said, “I am absolutely delighted common sense has prevailed.

“I am really pleased for my family—they had to go through a lot.”
