Accused of murdering Mary McLaren

ARBROATH MAN Patrick James Rae (40), of Andrew Barton Street, appeared in private before Sheriff Alistair Duff at Dundee yesterday on a petition alleging murder and an attempt to defeat the ends of justice.

The Crown Office have confirmed the appearance was in connection with the death of Mary McLaren (34), who went missing in Dundee in the early hours of Thursday, February 25.

Her body was discovered last Wednesday close to the Ladywell roundabout, on the city’s North Marketgait.

Rae, who was represented by solicitor Hugh Duncan from Ayr, made no plea or declaration and there was no application for bail.

The case was continued for further examination and Rae was remanded in custody.
