What are some of the dangers associated with DHMO?
Each year, Dihydrogen Monoxide is a known causative component in many thousands of deaths and is a major contributor to millions upon millions of dollars in damage to property and the environment. Some of the known perils of Dihydrogen Monoxide are:

* Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.
* Prolonged exposure to solid DHMO causes severe tissue damage.
* Excessive ingestion produces a number of unpleasant though not typically life-threatening side-effects.
* DHMO is a major component of acid rain.
* Gaseous DHMO can cause severe burns.
* Contributes to soil erosion.
* Leads to corrosion and oxidation of many metals.
* Contamination of electrical systems often causes short-circuits.
* Exposure decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes.
* Found in biopsies of pre-cancerous tumors and lesions.
* Given to vicious dogs involved in recent deadly attacks.

I just cant believe Cllr Macpherson hasn't brought our attention to this in his blog

I don't know if this is true but I've heard that showmen at carnivals/funfairs use it to prolong the life of captive goldfish...

Tried it once. just put me off for life.
but they tell me there used to be a place up near the back door to the Barrack Park that mixed it with something, made it palatable and popular, at least in Dundee.

I don't know if we're talking about the same thing, EckM, but there has always been a rumour that a certain shop in the Overgate and another in Albert Street, and maybe the one on the Hilltown, used it in the making of sarsaparilla.

ach there were many, many contibuting causes to the Titanic's demise Eck, poor design, hurriedly thrown together with inferior quality steel, poor workmanship, rudder too small, officers who hadn't a clue how to handle an emergency, lax rules and regulations, even weaker enforcement....the list goes on and on.

The disaster was inevitable, and the findings of both enquiries in UK and US are enlightening. The way it's going with Canadian shipping now, another disaster is equally inevitable, we're already on the PSC "Grey List".
