That's as bit of a contradiction there is it not? You were in gang yourself and raving about gang culture, yet you did not involve anyone who was in a gang?????.... confused(scratches head) How would that work out then?

Maybe I was too young to hear about the 'gang culture' in the early 70's, I was born in '65 but I had an older brother but he was never involved in gangs so go figure! (He possibly had better things to do with his time) whistle

nah its definetly an age thing, the 70's was a right hotch potch of loads of different Era's. There is picture in my house of my own sister(older) in a lochee fleet jersey. it was her lad/mans from charlestone's jersey, my dad would have went mental if she wore it at home.
I was still shang-a-langing to the rollers in 74, but then all of a sudden grew up in a short space of time and found myself in my sisters shoes, going to all dayers. Literally in her shoes !! they killed me but they added inches ( chuckle) .
Met someone recently, better no mention names, but lets just say the "duke" was still swearing his allegiance.
Im wondering if gang culture died out with Thatcherism.. the fights not being with each other, but who had the fanciest door on their bought cooncil hoose !
Right i will stop waffling noo,, im off to kick start the Young Mary girls. wink

my mistake, a sentence error on my part, what was meant was , we did not involve anyone who was "not" a gang member

i shall remember in future your attention to detail and your evident grasp for the meaning of a post/thread.

can we assume you worked in the timex at one point in your illustrious life span ?

as their attention to detail was legendary

by the time you were ten "miss mcshwally" we had packed up the gang uniform and its cultural ties and committments and were heading to wigan and other such working class places to enjoy ourselves at an other level of our upbringing.

its a pity your brother was kept indoors by your parents so much, as he might have enjoyed himself in the wider community and got a bit "streetwise" into the bargain. a learning point in life that cannot go under estimated.

as a matter of interest , did he work in the timex aswell?

Hi beetlejoose

I didn't work in the Timex but my mum and big sister did though. My attention to detail must be hereditary I suppose. I did work in Customer Service for 4 years for the biggest retailer in the UK and had to decipher customer letters/emails of complaint, then resolve and respond to each complaint. God help you if you read them wrong! shocked

On the contrary beetlejoose, my brother wasn't kept indoors at all. He just hung around the schemes playing football and going to his friends hooses to play subbuteo I think!

He was working full time by the age of 16 and by 17 he moved to London to work for hotels etc. He was more streetwise than any other kid of that age and was more into punk rock and gigs than fighting. He was such a scrawny wee youth he would'nt have stood a chance in a fight. I remember he got battered by the girl across the road fae us in Fintry!

You may know of him, his nickname was Nobby!
