AN 87-YEAR-OLD volunteer in Dundee believes one is never too old to offer a helping hand.

Harry Nunn (87) helps out at the Brae Riding Centre stables for five hours a week.

The sprightly octogenarian has always worked around horses and is happy to have the chance to pass on his knowledge and skills to the younger volunteers.

“If anyone has time on their hands, they should volunteer,” he said. “Don’t just sit at home, get out and get involved.

“It’s a great way to keep you active and fit and I would recommend it to everyone.”

Dundee has about 23,000 volunteers and, to mark the 25th National Volunteers Week, Volunteer Centre Dundee hopes to attract people of all ages to its information stand at the Wellgate Centre. Staff will be at the stall under the Wellgate clock from 10am to 4pm from Monday to Friday next week.

“We are asking people to come along and find out about the diverse range of opportunities available,” a spokesperson said.

“There is something for everyone and everyone has something to offer. We believe everyone who wants to volunteer should be able to do so, at any age—young and old.”
